Surahs: 1 - Al-Fatihah Tafseer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WAFIAfL7nM
Surah Fatiah - فاتحہ
It has multiple names | Arabs when they loved something they used to have many names for it. So, its a sign that this is one of the most loved Sur’ahs in Qur’an
- Generic meaning: “Opening”
- Umm al-Kitāb, Umm al-Qur’ān, As-Ṣalāh, Ash-Shifāʾ and many more
- As’Salah (The Prayer) | This term is used in lengthy Sahih-muslim 395a:
First Sur’ah that was revealed completely in one-go.
- 5th Revelation (Mostly agree on this)
- Both in terms of sequence and in terms of revelation | Quran e Nazooli , Quran e Tarteebi
- Its an overview of Hida’ya and act as a complete subject around it
Number of Ayahs: 7
But there are 2 arguments:
- Imam Shaf’i and Bas’ra Reader | قرا 1. Bismillah is part of Surah Fateh 2. Last 2 verses are 1 verse
- Imam Abu Hanifa and Kuf’a Reader 1. Bismillah is not part of this Surah, neither its part of any other surah except Hazrat Sulaiman (a.s) letter to Queen Saba where Qur’an has included it in the 27 - An-Naml 27 itself
Explanation of Reciting in Namaz | با جماعت
Tags: fiq’h namaz Sahih-muslim 395a This strongly shows that Surah Fateh should be rectitude in the Qur’an.
- Fiq’h Hanfi: Avoid reciting behind Im’am i.e during جماعت
- Fiq’h Shafi: Recite in every Rak’a no matter the Im’am is reciting or not
- Fiq’h Imam Maalik: Recite when Im’am is not reciting it i.e. 3rd and 4th Rak’h
- Based on the reason that when Qur’an is being recited we should stay quite: “So, when the Quran is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy” 7 - Al-Araf 204
Purpose of Holy Books
Basic Hida’ya | بنیادی ہدایت
- One God | ایمان با للہ
- This life is not eternal - there’s after life | ایمان بلا خرت
Above two points can be extracted by any human being with Aqal-e-Saleemi.
→ This is Qur’an philosophy that this basic hiday’ah is in every human’s heart! Sahih-al-bukhari 1358
BUT FROM HERE ONWARDS, Human intellect is not enough to explore further:
- If every human being is born with what’s the most basic requirements, why do we need the Divine Books in the first place?
01 | Bismillah
- Ar’ Rahman | الر حمنٰ —> Reflection of Zeal and Passion e.g. Sea
- Ar’ Raheem | الر حیم —> Reflection of consistency and calmness e.g. River
They are separated in reality, but when it comes to Allah. He has both of them simultaneously
So, it means Allah’s Rehma’t has huge zeal in it powered with the consistency and calmness.
- Alhamd’h | الحمد —> For praising and for being grateful. Shuk’r ka pehlu hai idr, yeh important baat hai idr.
Generally, jab ap kisi ki tareef krty hain tou apko is say gharz nhi hoti ky apko woh tareef faida degi ya nhi. Tou idr ap Allah ki tareef asy kr rhy hain kay apko Allah ki har cheez sy apko faida hai. Yehi reason hai ky har dua mai “Al’hamd” ka word use ho rha hoga.
04 | Owner of Every Return
Tags: akhirah
Day of judgement will be the day of Karma, day of return, badly ka din hoga. Hence, He is the owner of the Day of Return! (Judgement)
Three main points in one Ayah:
- Everyone of us will be resurrected one day.
- Day of Accounting, accountability of your deeds
- The ONE and ONLY owner and manager of that day is ALLAH! So, get rid of any thoughts that any one could save you that day. Al-Kah’aar!
05 | Direct Dialogue
Hum teri he ibaat krty hain, or hum tery sy he madad mangty hain
- Point of focus, the above Arabic translation shows the past and future. So, we “used to” do something and “we shall” continue to do it.
06 | The Correct Path
Tags: hiday’ah
Human’s intellect is not enough to figure out the ultimate hidaya’h on its own. There can be 3 potential reasons:
- To understand phenomenas which are not under our control
- For instance, a man can only understand what’s like to be a man, a child can only understand what’s like to be a child and same goes for women, girl and so on
- Mard apny haqooq ky lehaz sy sochyga, aurat apny lehaz sy. Is mai bhi balance sirf woi kr skta hai jo dono ka khali’q hai. Jisko dono ki feelings, dono ky ehsaas ka pata hai.
- Individual freedom vs Social Freedom | انفرادی آزادی اور اجیماعی آزادی
- Or in other words, there’s a boundary of individual person vs there’s a boundary of govt’s freedom (just for explanation don’t take this literally)
- Govt. yeh chaye gi ky sara control hamary pass ho. Aur ek fard yeh chaye ga ky control mery pass ho. Mai bhi azaad hon. Tou is mai bhi balance chaye hai.
- Capital vs Labour balance | سرمایہ اور مزدور
- How much a person should get paid for what he’s doing and when? Such questions cannot be answered as there are no benchmarks to it.
Above three points requires a benchmark, setup or standard to follow and maintain because human intellect is not enough to figure all of these on its own.
Hence, human beings require guidance in every aspect of life. But The Qur’an way of guiding is:
- If you tell someone what’s the way | اگر کوئی کسی کو راستہ بتا دے
vs
- If you take someone yourself on that way (This is Allah’s and Qur’an way) | اگر کوئی کسی کو اس راستے پر خود لے کر جاے
Islia ek insan kabhi bh yeh nhi keh skta ky mujhy sari hidayat mil chuki hai. Mujhy or kisi cheez ki zaroorat nhi hai. Even jab ah-el-jannat, jannat mai enter hongy tab bhi unki zuban sy jo alfaz nikalingy us mai yehi zikar hoga kay “Shukar us Allah ka jis ny humain hidayat di or hum yahan tak agay”.
07 | The Explanation of Du’a
*Hum dua’a mang rhy hain humain un logon ka rasta dekhana jin pay tera “inam” (*صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ) hua hai. Ab woh kon log hain?
Following graph shows the people upon whom Allah’s blessing has showered:

Basically, hum Allah sy in 4 logon ky level ki dua mang rhy hain ky humain woh rasta dekha jo in 4 categories mai fall krty hain
- Yahoodi’ | Jew | یہودی
- “People who have earned Allah’s wrath!” - مَغْضُوبِ
- There was no time gap in their era when they didn’t had any Prophet among them
- 1400 years of consecutive presence of Prophets
- The knew everything yet rejected it | ہدایت کو جان کر بھی اسکو رد کردیا
- Completely intellectual, knowing everything, has every information every distinction yet didn’t accept it
- Is’ai | Christians | عیسائی
- The word “ٱلضَّآلِّينَ” — “Going off the way at some extreme”
- They made Prophet Jesus | Is’a (a.s) as God’s son — Extreme as per previous point
- So, they had Hida’yat but they went to extreme of it
- Not intellectually, but with good intention reaching extreme
The overall Du’a summarizes as:
Oh Allah, don’t make us among those who had Hida’yat but they lost it and nor make us among those who had Hiday’at but they did Shir’k |
Postface
Sahih-muslim → Hadith Qud’si 395a … Allah the Exalted had said: I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.
- When the servant says: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me.
- And when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most High says: My servant has lauded Me.
- And when he (the servant) says: Master of the Day of judg- ment, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me. and sometimes He would say: My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me.
- And when he (the worshipper) says: Thee do we worship and of Thee do we ask help, He (Allah) says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.
- Then, when he (the worshipper) says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to whom Thou hast been Gracious not of those who have incurred Thy displeasure, nor of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for. … The above Hadith exactly maps the Surah Fateh and its verses. Which shows how much important and valuable this whole Surah is to Allah Himself
